A generous anonymous donor through The Gift Trust has provided funding to set up an annual scholarship for a young New Zealander to attend the International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) in Sweden. The Gift Trust will be administering the scholarship and the aim is to help promising young New Zealanders to achieve their potential by attending the YIP Program in Järna, Sweden.

What is YIP? YIP is a societal entrepreneurship training program that runs for 10 months based in Sweden. Watch their video below to learn more:
For our donors, the ultimate aim is to encourage New Zealand youth to become successful social and societal entrepreneurs.The scholarship is open to young people aged 18 – 28, who are residents of New Zealand, and provides over half the costs to attend the program in Sweden.
Scholarship details
The number and size of the financial support offered by The Gift Trust may change from year to year and will be determined by the financial need of the successful applicant. The intention is to offer one scholarship per year up to a value of NZD $10,000. The successful applicant will need to cover the remaining costs of the YIP program through their own funds or by fundraising. The total YIP program costs are 100.000 SEK (approx. NZD $16,000), plus the applicant will need to pay for flights to Sweden.
Criteria for applicants:

Applicants for the scholarship must first apply to the International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) and be accepted. Applying to the scholarship is conditional on acceptance to YIP.

Young people aged 18 – 28.

Residents of New Zealand.

The applicants financial situation would otherwise not allow them to attend the program.

Applicants from ethnic minority backgrounds including Māori and Pasifika who are under-represented in international education programs are actively encouraged to apply and extra consideration will be given to them.

The applicant must have a proven track record and desire to take part in projects and ideas that improve society and/or the environment.

The successful applicant will need to cover the remaining costs of the YIP program through their own funds or by fundraising (approx. NZD $8,000 – 9,000).
