The Prometheus Gift Trust is founded.

The Gift Trust was originally set up as an independent entity under the branding umbrella of Prometheus Finance who were a specialist in social finance, providing Kiwis with ethical and sustainable savings and loan choices. We were set up when a generous American family moved to New Zealand and wanted a donor-advised fund similar to what existed in the USA but couldn’t find one. They spoke to our early trustees who decided to form the Prometheus Gift Trust.

The Gift Trust reaches its first big milestone, donating $100,000 to charity in a single year. (We now donate well over $1 million every year!)

The Gift Trust takes on its current name following the closure of Prometheus Finance.

Cheryl Spain joins The Gift Trust as Executive Director, bringing two decades’ experience in the charitable sector.

The Gift Trust reaches another big milestone – $5 million in donor funds under management.

The Gift Trust reaches a third big milestone – we had donated $1 million to good causes.

A new partnership with RSF Social Finance allows American donors to make tax-effective charitable gifts to New Zealand causes via The Gift Trust.

Gift Collective launches as a joint venture between The Gift Trust and Open Collective NZ, to help charitable initiatives get up and running quickly, in the same year The Gift Trust reaches $10 million in donor funds under management.

The Gift Trust has now given out over $5 million to good causes on behalf of donors.
