Whether it’s because our donors tell their friends about us or whether our ‘move fast, dive deep’ approach to funding makes us particularly appealing, The Gift Trust is at the heart of some exciting climate projects around the motu.
We thought we’d take this opportunity to share with you all some updates on our friends in climate and the work they’re doing to prevent and alleviate the worst effects of climate change.
The Climatics
This tiny team of two are bringing ‘cool’ back to global warming, activating individual and family giving to make a bigger difference to climate organisations working on systems change in Aotearoa. Pip Wheaton and MJ Bethell have created a pooled fund at The Gift Trust where everyone’s donations can merge to offer substantial giving to local groups. Their giving is advised by a group of five climate experts who ascertain where the funds should go to make the biggest impact in regional and national projects bringing communities together to fight the good fight for climate. Net Zero Fund
This collaborative fund has been held at The Gift Trust for a number of years and has created remarkable change by funding organisations both here in New Zealand and around the world through their unique, two channeled system of giving. Individual donors and families make a donation to the Net Zero Fund and either tag one of their pre-vetted charities for their giving or give into the fund itself where the Net Zero team distributes on their behalf. A great way to give in a tax effective way to climate work all over the world, visit their website to learn more: https://netzerofund.nz/
Kiwis in Climate
Kiwis in Climate connects and supports New Zealanders around the world who work on climate. From London, to New York, to Wellington, this global network of 380+ New Zealanders is sharing expertise and increasing global collaboration on climate change, with Kiwi Ingenuity leading from the front. This year, the network launched the Kiwis in Climate book, a wonderful resource outlining the work of 30+ Kiwis (scientists, citizens, ex-politicians and CEOs), who grew up alongside the shores and mountains of Aotearoa that will lead to change all over the world.
Kiwis in Climate is auspiced by our Gift Collective fundholding platform. If you’re a Kiwi working in the climate space, we’d encourage you to join the network or get in touch to support their election effort. And if you’re looking for a hopeful and inspiring read about climate action and the difference people are making – check out Kiwis in Climate and the Kiwis in Climate book.
New Zealand Climate Foundation
Brand new to the climate space is the NZ Climate Foundation. With a mission to create rapid emissions reduction for Aotearoa New Zealand in the next ten years, the foundation identifies where actions to reduce emissions have the best chances of success and they find both barriers and solutions to those actions. They will then begin working to remove the barriers through funding, policy and other tools to ensure fast delivery of outcomes.
