One of The Gift Trust donors had a chat to us about wanting to help smaller charities who struggle with fundraising or marketing to get better access to training in this area. The Gift Trust did some research and spoke to a number of smaller charities who told us that they struggle to pay for any training or professional development courses for their staff or volunteers.
With a kind donation of $5,000 from the donor, we set up a fund to allow small environmental and conservation groups to attend a professional training course of their choice with the training provider Exult. Exult is one of New Zealand’s leading training providers for the community sector, providing training in fundraising, marketing, sponsorship and many other topics of relevance to small charities.
We ran a small application process and the fund allowed 31 people from 17 small environmental organisations to attend a course of their choosing. The courses they have attended include Sustainable Funding, Secrets of Sponsorship, Marketing on a Shoestring and Growing Great Ideas.
“The workshops and resources provided will be very useful to the long-term success of the Guardians of the Bay of Islands. We are very grateful to the donor that enabled us to attend these very effective workshops. The Sustainable Funding workshop enabled us to identify opportunities to diversify and prioritise our income channels.”
