The Gift Trust, through the generosity of an anonymous donor, have supported Kaibosh for three years, making donations totalling $70,000. Kaibosh is a charity that rescues leftover food from cafes, restaurants and supermarkets and distributes it to communities and organisations working with people in need across Wellington and Lower Hutt. To find out more about the amazing work of Kaibosh watch the short clip below.
Kaibosh operates from two branches – one in Wellington and one on Lower Hutt. After establishing their Lower Hutt branch in late 2015, they have seen ongoing growth of this branch, which means they are able to support more community members and organisations. Over 2017 they have been able to achieve the following:
203,413kg of quality surplus food was rescued and redistributed to community groups working with vulnerable people
Supported 65 different community groups across the Wellington and Hutt region who work with the most disadvantaged in our communities
Provided over 50,000 meals worth of food a month (based on a .350gm metric) to the most vulnerable and marginalised in the community
A message from the Kaibosh Team
“ We would like to take this opportunity to recognise and offer thanks for the support that we receive though The Gift Trust’s donation. This is one of the largest donations that Kaibosh receives each year and has been absolutely pivotal to our ability to operate with confidence and to expand our operation across the Hutt Valley. We are extremely thankful for this level of assistance that we receive through the Gift Trust-facilitated donation. Thank you from all of us! “ – Kaibosh
We are delighted that our donations have helped Kaibosh to continue their important and valuable food rescue mission. If you would like to donate to Kaibosh or look into ways of becoming a volunteer, head to their website www.kaibosh.org.nz to find out more.
